Why Home Repair Contractors Need To Take Before/After Pictures
As a home contractor, you’re constantly busy in and around homes. If you’re an outdoor living contractor or landscaper you’re great at getting in there and building that pergola or new deck, or building that great new outdoor kitchen. But what many businesses are not good at is actually getting pictures of the progress along the way. I want to encourage you to be sure to take really good before and after pictures. Here are some reasons why you should do this:
1. Show off your work.
The first reason is simply to show off your work. Taking the example of a landscaping company again, you may be called out to a yard that has no covered patio, the grass looks awful, and it’s just a mess. Then you’re able to come in, clean all that up, build a beautiful outdoor kitchen, a beautiful pergola or outdoor living space, something that really shows the homeowner the craftsmanship of your work. You want to be able to show them the contrast between where they started, and where they are now! Taking before and after pictures really helps you show off your work.
2. Help customers visualize.
Most homeowners are typically unimaginative. In fact, whenever I watch “House Hunters” I get frustrated and know that there is no way I could be a realtor because people walk into those houses and think “Oh, this isn’t for me!” because they can’t visualize the changes that can be done. Taking before and after pictures of a room remodel, or an outdoor living space, really helps your potential customer visualize what’s possible. Too often we look at our current space and write it off. We think “Eh, there’s nothing that can be done here.” But when you can show examples of how you took a yard from a bland space to an amazing oasis of a backyard, it helps them to visualize how their backyard might look once you’re done with it. And they’ll be able to see that they definitely want that change for themselves!
3. They work!
Before and after pictures work when it comes to generating referrals. That’s why people in the fitness industry do it, that’s why people in remodeling do it. They work! If you ever watch shows like “Fixer Upper” or “Property Brothers” you know that the best part of the show is the reveal at the end. It’s an emotional tug, and we all know that most of the time people buy with their emotions, not with their logic. The before and after pictures really help to spark that emotion and could be the buying signal for a potential customer. That’s why they do those reveals like that. That’s why on “Fixer Upper” they have the before picture of what the property looked like, then they roll that away and have the beautiful reveal.
If you’re thinking to yourself, “That’s all great, but I don’t have time to sit there and take all these pictures, and do all these things you’re talking about,” that’s where I come in! That’s why I do what I do. I’d love to sit down and talk with you, especially if you own an outdoor living and/or landscaping company. We only work with one business per industry and we don’t have a landscaper yet. We look forward to helping you out! Click the button below and let’s set up a time to meet!
