When To Hire a Social Media Manager

social media manager

Many of you know that I do consulting and coaching with business owners to show them how to implement their marketing plan. But a lot of people don’t know that we can also manage social media campaigns for them. Sometimes business owners find themselves in a spot when they know that social media will work for them, but they don’t really know when it’s the right time to outsource or delegate some of these social media tasks. I want to give you five signs that tell you it’s time to hire a social media manager, whether in-house or outsourced to a firm like Market With Mario.

1. You don’t have time.

You just don’t have the time to do it right. What I mean is, social media takes consistency and daily posting, replying back to comments, retweeting articles that are of interest, sharing other people’s content. If you have the time to do this only a couple of times a month, most savvy business owners know that that’s not enough time to do it effectively and actually be able to achieve results. If you do not have enough time to do your social media consistently, daily, that’s a sign that it’s time to hire someone else to do it for you.

2. You don’t like doing it.

A lot of business owners out there understand the value of having an online and a social media presence, they just don’t like to do it. They don’t like to get on Facebook or Twitter. They would much rather do what they do best, which is their craft and their business.

3. You can’t keep up with changes.

This kind of goes along with the first reason, not having enough time. Part of my day consists of reading blogs and articles to see what has changed in the social media world. What has changed with Facebook lately? What has changed with Twitter? If you’ve ever been on Facebook you understand that in the time it took me to write this post, something has already changed with the way Facebook operates! Social media platforms seem to be constantly changing the way they operate, and this will directly affect how well your social media works for you. You may get into a rhythm with posting, but if you don’t keep up with the changes, you’re going to be left behind—and keeping up with the changes takes more time and energy. This is another good reason to outsource to someone who does this kind of thing all the time—they can keep up with the changes so you don’t have to.

4. Your time is better spent elsewhere.

Maybe you technically do have the time, but you are better served in your particular business to have your time allocated somewhere else. Take a dentist, for instance. A dentist may have the time to take a moment to do a social media update, but he or she is better served working with patients, with staff, or furthering their education.

5. You want an expert to handle your social media.

Maybe you don’t want to put your energy into learning a new skill, when there are people out there who are already experts and can do this for you. I’ll give you an example: I do not do anything with my cars. I barely know how to put gas in them. I barely know how to give them a jump start. So I take my cars to an expert to have my oil changed, or get them worked on. Similarly, I’m sure I could do my taxes online, myself. I don’t do that. I have a great CPA who does my taxes, my accounting, and all those kinds of things. I want an expert to handle those things. You may be an expert in what you do, but you may want an expert to do just your social media, and then you can relax and not worry about keeping up with that side of your marketing.
